No More Self Quarantine for Visitors in Bali from March 7, 2022
Bali is stepping into a new chapter as it emerges from the challenges posed by the pandemic. After more than two years of a significant downturn in tourism, the island is officially saying goodbye to mandatory self-quarantine for visitors! Isn’t that great news? In response to the public’s demand for relaxed entry requirements, Bali is set to make a remarkable recovery, paving the way for new businesses and job opportunities starting March 7, 2022.
The Agenda for No More Self Quarantine Is Brought Forward 7 Days Earlier
The COVID-19 pandemic forced Indonesia to enact strict entry protocols to combat the virus’s spread. However, these measures severely impacted the tourism industry. As of March 7, 2022, Bali has implemented new travel regulations that allow foreign visitors to skip self-quarantine entirely! Originally scheduled for March 14, this change comes a week earlier – what’s behind the urgency?
Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, explained that the decision was made based on comprehensive evaluations and reliable data. This move is a testament to the commitment to revitalize the tourism sector.
The Background
In a discussion with CNN Indonesia, Sandiaga Uno highlighted that the residents of Bali have developed strong immunity levels to manage potential COVID-19 outbreaks, with over 90% vaccination rates for the second dose – the highest in Indonesia. The Provincial Government has also accelerated the distribution of booster vaccines, achieving a rate of over 30%.
Wayan Koster, in his statement, noted that from 2,909 visitors arriving in Bali between February 30 and March 6, 2022, only 16 tested positive for COVID-19. This demonstrates a transmission rate of less than 1%. With numerous green zones established across Bali, the safety of both visitors and locals remains a priority. Koster also reported that vaccination rates have exceeded 100% for first doses, 94% for second doses, and reached 22.3% for booster shots.
Bali’s Preparations for Free Self Quarantine Starting from March 7, 2022
In alignment with the directives from Indonesia’s President, Joko Widodo, comprehensive simulations have been undertaken to ensure a seamless implementation of the new policies. This proactive approach involves collaboration between local and central governments to introduce new regulations, international health protocols, updated visa policies, and the readiness of airlines and airports.
Moreover, transportation from the airport to hotels, public awareness campaigns about the no self-quarantine policy, and an acceleration of booster vaccinations are all on the agenda. To ensure the policy’s effectiveness, authorities have prioritized:
- Visitors’ commitment to using the PeduliLindungi application.
- Preparedness of Bali’s hospitals to deliver premium healthcare services.
- Accommodation providers being equipped with health task forces to enforce health protocols.
This comprehensive preparation aims to safeguard against any potential challenges as Bali opens its doors to tourists once again.
Despite the No Self Quarantine Policy, Tourists Still Submit the Documents as Required
While the self-quarantine requirement has been lifted and visa on arrival has been reinstated, tourists must still fulfill several important requirements to ensure their safety and compliance:
- Have proof of full vaccination, including a booster shot.
- Provide a receipt for their accommodation booking.
- Present valid travel insurance.
- Show a negative PCR test result taken prior to their departure.
- Undergo another PCR test upon arrival at the airport, with results expected within 24 hours.
Should a tourist test positive for COVID-19, they must self-quarantine at their reserved accommodation (designated for those with mild symptoms) or be relocated to authorized hospitals if symptoms are severe.
If this policy proves successful, the Central Government may consider extending these measures to other provinces in Indonesia.
